"RIP Plane Victims"

It is impossible to know whether this post at Al-Emirati.com on the victims of the recent Air India disaster is intended to be some appalling attempt at humour or satire, but by every single measure it is absolutely beyond the pale:
Not really. Not only do I not care if the victims "rest in peace" but it seems to me that they are, rather, resting in pieces!

I am of course talking about flight IX 812 from Dubai to Balglapour (or some other hell hole, they're all the same) that recently crashed (click here)

I know I know. Mean, blah blah. The way I see it is as follows. The UAE is (about) 50% Indians, Something that I, and 90% of all other Emaratis see as a bad thing.

This plane, carrying Indians who live and work here, means that 160 indians that clog up the roads, cause accidents, fail code inspections at Indian restaurants, speak like this guy, and are a general drag on the security of the UAE, wont be coming back. That is a very GOOD thing!

I can only pray that this happens every week!

Sadly, we'll probably have 160 new VISAs for 160 new Indians issued in 3 hours... And the authority in charge of this will flaunt that, as if it's a good thing.

Mocking the victims of a plane crash disaster on the grounds of their race and glorying in their tragic deaths is simply inhumane.

In fact, it is evil.

First-off, may the victims of this horrible tragedy rest in peace.

Second, this character known as ultrablue, a bitch(oops blessing) in tragedy, hemilution is an expat chick masquerading as an Emirati dude.

Third, no Emirati would desecrate the death of another human being. Only a sick person is capable of that.

So, yeah pushing your luck ultrabitch and soon you'll find yourself without a domain to host your crap.

Until then enjoy your so-called fun ride.

I have to agree that the article is finely tuned to project the current stereotypical Arab/Muslim image with an emirate flavor

Welcome back, Secret Dubai. Nice to know you're alive and not in the hands (or cattle prods) of the royal family. Like the previous two comments, I would like to think that post was from someone trying to make Emiratis look bad. I have a hard time believing someone could be that cruel(although even if it is a joke, that's pretty cruel as well).

However, I remember when teaching at AUS how one of my Saudi students missed class because he hit and killed a laborer while driving. To my shock, he didn't seem the least disturbed when he told me what happened. He made it sound like he had hit a stray dog in the street, not a human being. So who knows ...

As for the first commentor, you say that no Emirati would desecrate the death of others because only a sick person would do such a thing. Does that mean that no Emiratis are "sick" or disturbed? I think it's safe to say that no race, ethnicity, or nationality is above being disturbed.

He's obviously a pathetic loser with no say in the matter.

No one in his country listens to him...

So he can whine and whine and post hate blogs but that is about all he can do.

The consensus is that Secret Dubai is a "she", and as for not having a "say in the matter" ... well, that would be everyone in the UAE, including Emiratis, with the exception of the royal families. Remember that the UAE is not a democracy and that the royal families don't solicit input from anyone on what goes on in the country. I'm sure Secret Dubai wouldn't be hiding behind a blog if the UAE permitted free speech - being anonymous is the only way to influence anyone there. That's what is truly sad.

Is it really a secret that some Emaratis feel this way? To the professor who taught at AUS, HI! I wonder if I was ever a student of yours. :) Anyway, there was a local girl in one of my Mass Communication classes who launched a spiel about how "you other people come into our country and take our jobs and ruin our culture." It was quite alarming at the time.

Wouldn't the rulers just kick all the expats out if they felt that way, though? Or at least curtail entry. Even if they don't like us, I guess they see the economic sense, even if the folks over at Al-Emarati don't.

SD, please, wake up! You're feeding the craze by linking his post. Can't you see ABIT loves attention, he loves to PROVOKE and argue? He takes joy in agonzing bloggers. It has nothing to do being an Emirati. In fact he's been harrassing BuJ's blog and Al Ain Rose's blog both of whom are Emirati.

Hence, this isn't anything to do with being Emirati. In fact ABIT isn't even Arab. His paternal side is Persian and, the maternal American-German, or so he claims. He attended school in good 'ol Arizona where picked up the twisted satire. Though most Arizonians I know are nice and decent people.

If I were you, I'd remove the link, because more traffic, comments and agony is exactly what he's looking for. Albeit he's laughing out loud reading this post.

'Albeit he's laughing out loud reading this post.'

Thank you for your extensive biographic sketch & psychoanalysis. Will keep that mind.

However, this post is not entirely about glorifying a bitch (yeah, that's a bitch, alright). A sick 3-faced bitch.

This post is a remembrance of the innocent lives that perished, as they were celebrating their homecoming. Maybe it doesn't mean much to you but it does to others. So feel free to join in the discussion or stay away, if you wish.

When the Americans stopped supporting, as a long term sustainable technology support, Arabs tern to Indians. The irony is, that didn’t change the mean, disgusting attitude of Arabs toward the sub-cons. But, wait & see , India & China is developing fast; Arabs will find their proper place in the history, once they finish selling all they could.

quote from his blog "I m the UAE's original goth kid, a process that started over a 10yrs, long before any wannabe goths walked the halls of MOE"

If it wasnt for the Indian(Pakistani, Bangaledshi,Filipino, etc...) workers Dubai would still be the shithole it is today, biut without the buildings. Sooner or later those emirati twats will be presented with the bill of their moronic behaviour...

I'm almost starting to think some of the Anon comments with links to ABIT's blogs are the man himself. If not, you folks are playing right in to his hands. And that's a shame.

Anon 25 May, 2010 07:56 -- there are the good and the bad in every society. I realize there are a lot of short comings on the several ways in the UAE. I’m not an Emirati, just somebody who was born / raised in the UAE. I have seen more than some of the bad, but also a lot of good. Since you've lived in the UAE so very long, are you completely unable to see the good stuff? If so, perhaps it's you who's partly impaired? Something to think about perhaps.

Let’s be fair.

Also, do not be fooled by the high rises and the glam sham – it’s a very young country trying to find its ways. It’s going to take time. The wealth in the capital doesn’t help. Dilutes a lot of the good stuff the place has to offer.

Enough said.

His views are not representative of the general uae population. we have very strong ties with the great Indian people that go hundreds of years back. From his writing, he is a "westernized" Emarati or even an impostor, in either case his views are very extreme and do not represent the good ties between the two nations and their people. May all the people who died in that tragic accident rest in peace. Let's not forget that many of airplane passengers for such flights are usually Emaratis who love to go and visit India for various reasons. It is such a tragic incident and such neo-nazi views are not welcomed in our country.

1.Let me guess, but you are an Arab? No, I don’t want to play CSI here based on pure assumptions. Nope, it is not me.
2. Point taken. But the question remains, how much a grace period UAE wants and are they allowed violating basic human rights during that period? In the West, they paid a heavy prize for whatever rights they are enjoying now. C’mon, wakeup and smell the coffee dude. Well tell me when that kind of paradigm-shift will happen in Arabia. Perhaps never, as those bad habits are considered as social norms there.

3. I’m not walking in to ABIT’s trap as I’m not commenting in his/her blog. I don’t waste my energy on a guy like ABIT. But you are logical and your words of choice are (not that) nasty. So, I wouldn’t go name calling here. Here is the deal, you respect my freedom of speech, Ill respect yours

4. By the way, I did see good things in UAE, but it is not my job to tell them; they got enough people for that sort of PR. You were born there, and perhaps you are a Arab, so you can’t possibly understand what I’m talking about. Here is the deal, you respect my freedom of speech, Ill respect yours.

Wow. Let me 1st say that we were having a slow few weeks and thought a bit of "fun" would bring in some readership.

It did. Sadly 95% of them didnt "get" it. the remaining 5% didnt agree with it but were laughing at it.

People, the innerwebs is a form of entertainment, like the movies, or a TV show. Every now and then, imbedded in that entertainment is a bit of truth. But that little bit of truth does not mean that the entertainment factor, the main factor of the issue should be taken for granted and all of a sudden the movie has turned into a fact filled documentary.

If anything allowing our contributers free reign to post whatever and however they wish is not something the UAE is ready for. We hear often that oh, this part of the world needs more opinions, debate, views, and openness.

No, what the sheer power of the readers/comments proved to us is that people, including those residing and those from the UAE, want those things as long as they are the same as everyone else'

At 300 comment I, as an admin, didnt have time to go through them all, so I decided to do what I never thought I would. I censored one of my contributors.

I am writing this to apologize for this blog as a whole for any hurt the post this one replaces may have caused. I have given it the same URL so that links on the innerwebs will link directly here.

I am also appalled at the comments we had received. For people who supposedly care, and are not hatful or racist, most comments were in fact just that. So to those happy that I took the post down, know that it was done because you stooped down to the same level that you supposedly were condemning.

We didnt know we were this important. With 35 followings, we expected 35 comments or less. Not so many that we couldnt even read them all. What we read was enough.

The UAE isnt ready for opinions. Not real ones. We will continue to give watered down ones then.

Happy blogging and happy reading. Sadly, even our blogs now are as good as our newspapers. And that;s because of us all.

Please check out this post by yet another member of ours on the same subject, posted on the same day. Sadly, this one only got a total of 8 comments. Says alot about all those supposedly caring people.

Thank you everyone for your comments, and thank you to Anon above who pasted the new transcript.

It is really heartening to see such a wide range of comments - from people of so many different backgrounds - condemning the hatred.

I would note that I don't see the view as representative of all Emiratis. And I have seen plenty of hate-filled comments by people of other races (western and eastern and wherever else) over the past years. Even my own blog is hardly a beacon of political correctness: though I hope that there has been humour and not hatred behind my own writings.

But when someone mocks the victims of a fatal tragedy, people who gave their lives and labour to a foreign country, and whose already-poor families will likely face penury through their deaths, that just goes an extra step too far for me.

I felt that it needed to be exposed - and shamed - rather than just ignored.

the workers who came from my country to uae did not come for the blessings, nor for compassion and understanding. most knew that would be the wrong place to look for these. they came for money they thought will provide them with a better life, a better future, by surviving a period of cursed existence in uae. a sub-human existence of denial of every human wish, akin to a prison term. but god had different plans for these people, and took them to a hopefully better place. all the insults will not hurt them now. who cares if emiratis liked them or not. they knew they would not be respected here for anything other than the wealth they could flaunt, as if that is the ultimate in human achievement. All this in a country that claims to be the biggest in everything but falls back on the excuse of being a naive young country when it suits them.

I am an Indian woman and have worked and lived and worked across the middle east for many years. I knew immediately that this was not the work of an Emirati or a local Arab. This type of bile is only possible for some one with western upbringing, perhaps an Arab person braught up in the West with a hatred for the competition. I am now out of the Middle east and I miss the warmth and the spontaniety of the Arab culture.I have made some lifelong friends whose kids and my kids are close too. i know there are many negative aspects to the MIddle east but to be honest te only racism I have experienced have been from Brits in the Mid East. Though again I have had some wonderful the Brit bosses, but these have been older and also longtimers. The racism is most apparent in the recent transplantees and folks below 40. THis "they hate Indians" has an unspoken subtext..."they love us(brits)" . Not really they don't

Dahi Khalfan should also consider that more arabs from other countries is a potential political unrest waiting to happen in the future in a non democratic country like the UAE. Indians n Pakistanis n Brits n non arabs are there to earn a living without any political ambitions. Unless of course Dahi Khalfan is himself trying to make UAE a democracy and hold elections.
